The uprising ended the triumphalist phase of these policies and helped to push Mexico into yet another economic crisis and a long, inconclusive political situation. The often common opposition to the regime among different indigenous organizations did not always translate into common political agendas, tactics, or strategies. In some instances political agendas were largely confined to the resolution of local issues, including such matters as land and water rights. In other cases indigenous organizations pressed for larger political goals, including regime change.
